Change of leadership at the Bethlehem Mission Society

On June 12, the General Chapter appointed a new leadership team for SMB and at the same time streamlined it. In the future, the General Council will consist of three persons; So far, there have been four.

Newly elected are:
Josef Meili, as Superior General, of Muolen SG
Josef Christen, as Vicar General, of Stans NW
Ludovic Nobel, as General Councilor, from Estavayer-le-Lac / Fribourg
Inauguration is on 1 October 201

Farewell to Bro. Lucian Vonlanthen †

We admire his real missionary vocation, the nurturing of his vocation in a healthy spirituality, his availability, willingness to take on changing tasks without complaint, with inner calm and serenity, utmost gratitude, a distinguished, pleasant character in his dealings, conscientiousness in his various tasks, enjoyment of little things, modesty in lifestyle and good language skills: French, German, English and Shona. He concluded the resumé of his life with the words: “Deo gratias”.

Farewell to Bro. Hugo †

Hugo was born in Mümliswil (Canton of Solothurn) on May 2, 1948. He had a sister, Margrit, and two brothers: Antony and Peter. Antony is now the only survivor. Hugo attended high school and apprenticed as a mechanic at Von Roll Klus AG. He entered the SMB seminary in 1969 and began the novitiate at Schöneck the following year.

SMB-Docu on Swiss Television

December 22nd 2016 Swiss Television aired a documentary on our aging community. It focuses mainly on our confreres in Zimbabwe, with flashbacks on their exploits two generations ago. Although many do not appreciate the title «The End of mission» it shows a sympathetic picture of these veterans.
